Meet Dr. Hanna
Lorraine D. Hanna, DDS, FAGD, FDOCS
I feel it is very important that people can trust their professional healthcare giver. My team and I work hard to build and maintain that trust with my patients. Dentistry has so much to offer now, and has changed tremendously through the years. Those that fear dentistry often have avoided it for years and have not experienced the difference that we can offer now. We believe that through education and prevention, we can assist my patients in achieving optimum dental health.
Education and Experience
I attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry where I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1991. I worked in private practices in Coldwater and Battle Creek before moving to Kalamazoo in 1995. In 2001 the practice was moved to its current location and am proud to practice dentistry in such a wonderful community.
In order to keep up with the modern advances in dentistry, all team members, including myself, attend continuing education that exceeds all industry requirements. I have received specialized training and certification in conscious sedation and IV sedation, and received my Fellowship in the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation in 2009.
I was awarded the Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2001 for extensive continuing education. I also received the Young Dentist Leadership Award in 2000, presented by the Michigan Dental Association. I was awarded as one of America's Top Dentists by the Consumer's Research Council of America for my leadership in the field of dentistry and dedication to continuing education.
Organized dentistry has been a focus in my career, on order to promote continuing education after dental school. I am a member of the American Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association, and have been the president of the Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society and the Bunting Periodontal Study Club, which provide educational programs for Michigan dentists.
In the Community
Being active in the community where I live and work is extremely important to me. Whether I am providing dental care to those less fortunate through the Kalamazoo Free Clinic or running the 5k at the Binder Park Zoo, I love to give back! I am also a sponsor of the Kalamazoo Country Day School, and am a participant in the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped. My team and I have contributed through the Comstock Community Center programs for many years.
Outside the Office
My wonderful husband, Mike, and I are the proud parents of our daughter, Sara. Most of my time away from the office is spent with my family being a busy wife and mom. When I have free time I enjoy scuba diving, hunting, fishing, and photography. I also play the harp, piano and hand bells, and have served on the Board of Directors at my church. I have taken up running in the last 2 years, and am looking forward to running the Borgess Half Marathon in 2012!
